Sinningia cardinalis – A tuberous gesneriad species with soft, velvety bright green leaves arising from a rounded, above-ground caudex. It produces clusters of brilliant red, hooded flowers on upright stems, often several at once, typically blooming from late spring through autumn. After growth and flowering the foliage may die back as the plant enters dormancy, with new shoots emerging from the tuber in the next cycle. Indoors under warm, bright conditions. growth may be more continuous, with new shoots emerging in succession.
This species combines striking color with a strong, upright habit characteristic of the “cardinal flower.”
