Pearcea hypocyrtiflora – A rare and unusual Gesneriad species from Ecuador, with beautifully marked foliage that makes the plant attractive even when not in bloom. Its large, textured green leaves are prominently veined in contrasting yellow-green, creating an intricate pattern across the leaf surface.
The real surprise comes with flowering: the extraordinary bubble-like flowers are a vivid orange-red, creating a striking contrast against the richly veined foliage. This unusual combination of ornamental leaves and remarkably distinctive flowers makes P. hypocyrtiflora a fascinating collector’s plant and a true botanical curiosity. The Gesneriad Society itself has described its flowers as among the unusual “bubble-shaped” forms found in the family.
